• Q. Why does BFSFCU issue contactless cards?
  

  A. BFSFCU issues contactless cards because of the speedier checkout experience and enhanced security when tapped at contactless-enabled point of sale devices. BFSFCU wants to get the best and most up to date card technology in the hands of our members.

• Q. How do I know if my BFSFCU debit or credit card is contactless enabled?
  

  A: Look for the contactless indicator  on the front of your credit card to determine if it is capable of contactless payments.

• Q. How do I know if a merchant terminal is contactless capable?
  

  A: Look for the Contactless Symbol on merchant terminals to determine if they can accept contactless payments. You can make a contactless payment with your contactless card wherever you see the symbol.

• Q. How close should a contactless card be to a contactless capable terminal for the terminal to read the card?
  

  A. The card should be within 1–2 inches of the Contactless Symbol on the terminal. The card may also be placed on the Contactless Symbol on the terminal until the transaction is complete (typically a few seconds).

• Q. If I have a contactless card, will my card still be contactless for future reissues?
  

  A. Yes, if you already have a contactless card you will receive one every time a new card is sent.

• Q. Are contactless payments secure?
  

  A. Yes, the security level of a contactless payment is the same as contact chip cards.  Along with the account number, a one-time security code is sent from the card to the payment terminal to identify that transaction.

• Q. What is a contactless payment?
  

  A. Contactless payments utilize near field communication (NFC) to securely complete payments at a contactless-enabled merchant terminal.  These types of payments can be made with a contactless card or through a digital wallet, like Apple Pay or Google Pay.

• Q. Why would I want to make a contactless payment?
  
  • Safe: Tapping to Pay with a contactless card allows you to avoid touching surfaces during these uncertain, socially distanced times.

  • Secure: Much like a digital pay app, when you use your contactless card for payment, a one-time, unique code is generated for each transaction.

  • Simple: One tap of your contactless card to the point of sale device, and you are all set!
• Q. How do contactless cards compare to digital wallets like Apple Pay®, Google Pay™, and Samsung Pay?
  

  A. Contactless cards use the same Near Field Communication (NFC) technology as most digital wallets so if you are used to holding your phone near the Contactless Symbol to pay, you would do the same with a contactless card.
